Cook Out 400 forecast update: Wet weather tires on hand ahead of Martinsville NASCAR race

While the forecast has certainly cleaned up in the last 24 hours, there is still a slight chance of rain for the NASCAR race at Martinsville. There are stacks of wet weather tires on hand at the track in case they are needed.

Right now, it doesn’t appear we will see rain at the track. But with NASCAR, never say never. Sometimes, it can appear out of thin air.

Race Weather on X/Twitter has the forecast for today. While the wet weather tires are out, it doesn’t appear NASCAR will need them at Martinsville after all. Rain to the west but the weather is perfect for racing otherwise.

NASCAR has fought with the weather a little bit this season. Out in Phoenix, rain showed up out of nowhere to mess with the ARCA Menards Series race. It is best if the rain stays away, but I was pretty interested in how the wet weather tires would perform at Martinsville.

Speaking of NASCAR at Martinsville, let’s hope the Cup Series keeps it together this evening. Both the Truck and Xfinity Series had messy, ugly races the last two nights. Some good, aggressive, and clean racing tonight would be a salve for fans after the last two days.

NASCAR at Martinsville: Chaos in the Xfinity Series

If you need to get caught up on what went down last night, don’t worry. At the end of a race that had 102 laps under caution, Sammy Smith decided that wasn’t enough. Having lost the lead on the final restart, he sent it in from wayyyy back in Turn 3, a move that would make Austin Dillon blush.

Afterward, Smith didn’t seem to have any regrets. NASCAR might step in and issue some form of punishment.

“I mean, absolutely, it was egregious. I mean, yeah, I’m not proud of that, but I mean, if roles were reversed, he would have done the same thing,” Smith said on The CW postrace coverage. “He’s got no respect for me. I didn’t move him those first prior restarts and you know, he was flipping me off under the red flag, swerving at me, you know, it’s definitely uncalled for and I’m not proud of it, but he would have done the exact same thing, and that’s what I told him. You know, we’ll see what happens after that.”

Even though he knows people will criticize him, Sammy Smith isn’t backing down. He is going to take this in full stride it seems.

“I mean, it’s unfortunate, you know, he’s – if you’re not the one doing it, someone’s going to do it to you,” he continued. “Everyone’s gonna dog on me and I’m not proud of that but at the end of the day, it’s what you got to do. So, we’ll move on to Darlington.”
