Cooper Kupp trade rumors: Sean McVay addresses prospect of dealing Rams WR
LA Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been one of the most prolific receivers in league history during his time with the franchise. But he’s battled a number of injuries in his career and in recent weeks, there have been rumors circling around that the Rams are looking to deal their star wideout. Shortly after his team’s 30-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night, LA head coach Sean McVay confirmed the trade rumors around Kupp.
Rams beat reporter Jourdan Rodrigue noted it in the postgame press conference. McVay confirmed that teams have reached out about the possibility of trading for Kupp, but there’s also a lot of speculation out there and certain things that are not true. He said there are certain things floating around that aren’t true and they’ve been addressed. But he did not offer specifics.
Against the Vikings on Thursday night, Kupp hauled in five catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.
During his prolific career in the league thus far in the NFL, Kupp has etched his name among the all-time greats. He’s had two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, including one in 2021 when he reeled in 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. The marks for catches and yards in that season were each the second-most in NFL history. Not only that, but he also captured the triple crown, which made him the first player since 2005 to lead the league in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Kupp is only the fourth player since 1970 to accomplish the rare feat, joining Jerry Rice (San Francisco 49ers–1990), Sterling Sharpe (Green Bay Packers–1992), and Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers–2005).
