Corey Heim hits the wall while racing Kaden Honeycutt for the lead at Martinsville

Disaster for Corey Heim! The Tricon Garage driver was racing hard with Kaden Honeycutt when he cut a tire and spun out. Heim spun out into the wall. Another week where he swept the stages and another week where he came up short.
Nothing egregious happened between Corey Heim and Kaden Honeycutt. It was short-track racing. Honeycutt had to be physical with Heim if he had any chance to contend for the win with less than 40 laps to go.
The steel bodies on these trucks are hard on tires. Now, Honeycutt is set up to possibly earn his first career win in the Truck Series.
Corey Heim did not blame Honeycutt after the race. He believes it was just a mistake and something that happened from racing. Still, the talented young driver is not happy.
“Really wanted to get a win for Toyota’s 500th truck start,” Heim said after rallying to a P6 finish. “Obviously had the Tundra to do it today, just feel like we, I don’t know, got used up there a little bit. I don’t think he intended to cut my left rear down. I think if he wanted to do that he would have just wrecked me as it is. … It wasn’t anything malicious, but I don’t know, I guess I would have liked to have been cut a break in hindsight. I think if he knew he was going to cut down my left rear he probably wouldn’t have done it, but doesn’t stop me from being pretty frustrated at him to begin with.”
If it is any consolation, Kaden Honeycutt wrecked and finished two laps down this race. It happened immediately after the Heim incident on the ensuing restart. So, the racing universe is balanced, all things considered.
Corey Heim comes up short once again
Following his frustrating loss at Homestead last week, this can’t feel good for Corey Heim. He is very much a handful of laps and a couple of moments away from having four wins in the first five races.

After Heim, Honeycutt, and Ty Majeski wrecked from the lead of this race, it opened the door. Tyler Ankrum and Daniel Hemric answered. In the end, Hemric was the one doing a backflip on the frontstretch while Ankrum had another win slip from his fingers.
Heim once again led the most laps tonight. That makes three races in a row with the most laps led. Last season, he went on a streak of five races in a row where he led the most laps. That resulted in three wins, a DQ, and a DNF. The ebbs and flows of racing.
Corey Heim is clearly the fastest driver in the Truck Series. He just has to have things line up for him. Not even that, Heim just needs things to not actively be working against him. But as the top driver, everyone is going to race him hard every chance they get. If they don’t, he’s likely to drive into the distance.
Fun fact, Heim is one win away from tying Kevin Harvick and Johnny Benson for 11th on the all-time wins list in the Truck Series. If he matches his win total from last season, he will have 17 career wins and be tied with Greg Biffle and Ted Musgrave for 8th.
