For the first time since Pocono and for the sixth time this season, Corey Heim is a winner in the NASCAR Truck Series. Heim gets it done at his favorite track on the schedule as Ty Majeski ran out of fuel on the last lap.

There was no spoiler tonight. Corey Heim gets his first win of the playoffs this season. When the chips were down, Heim and his crew chief had the right strategy to win on Friday night.

It is going to take a special performance to take down Heim this year. He is my favorite to win the championship.

For the sixth time this season, it was Heim Time. He had to come up through the field to start the race, drive it all the way to the front, and be in the right place at the right time when it mattered most.

Ty Majeski started on pole and put up a great effort. It just wasn’t enough to get him the win tonight. He is moving onto the Round of 8, though. Ben Rhodes and Daniel Dye were eliminated from the Truck Series Playoffs after falling short on points. Grant Enfinger and Tyler Ankrum were the final two to make it.

Now, the points are reset and the drivers are reracked for the Round of 8.

Corey Heim leads in points +38 above the cutline. He is followed by Christian Eckes (+29), Ty Majeski (+14), and Nick Sanchez (+8). Rajah Caruth (-8), Grant Enfinger (-11), Tyler Ankrum (-11), and Taylor Gray (-15) are on the outside looking in starting next week.

When the Truck Series returns to the track next week, it will be just three races before Phoenix and the championship. Talladega, Miami, and Martinsville will determine the Championship 4.

Corey Heim having fantastic season

While Corey Heim didn’t win the regular season championship, he has won enough races to make up for it. He is the leader in wins with six on the year but Christian Eckes is not far behind. In fact, Eckes just recorded his eighth straight finish of P4 or better. That is good enough for an average finish of 2.5 in those eight races.

During that same time, Heim has been great as well, but not as consistent. That could be the determining factor in the championship battle. Heim has an average finish of 6.0 in those same eight races. He had finishes of P17, P16, and P7 that bring his average down.

However, during that time, Heim has won three races. Gateway, Pocono, and Kansas and led the most laps in each of those races. When he is on, he’s on and it’s almost impossible to beat him.

Christian Eckes and Corey Heim have been far and away the best two drivers in the Truck Series this season. If Heim falters or has one of his slip-ups at the wrong time, it could be trouble for him. He does not want a repeat of the 2023 championship race.

Eckes would, though. He won that race but was not eligible to win the championship. Maybe this year he can do both?
