Corey LaJoie explains evolution of NASCAR podcast
Corey LaJoie isn’t just becoming a great NASCAR driver, but he’s becoming an important part of the sport’s media, as well.
LaJoie’s Stacking Pennies podcast has been a consistently great show since its inception, and it’s something that LaJoie has put a ton of passion into. During an interview with FOX, LaJoie elaborated on why he does it amid all the time he spends at the racetrack, and it’s evident there’s more than meets the eye.
“My podcast pay just might cover freakin’ diapers. Those suckers are expensive. My wife gets the bougie ones with all-natural stuff — it’s like five bucks a diaper. I didn’t go into it hoping that it would produce some sort of outcome,” LaJoie said, asked if he supplements his income with profits from his podcast. “I went into it originally with Daryl Motte and Lauren Fox at MRN and we were just riffing about current events and just NASCAR — stuff that I was passionate about.
“When NASCAR assumed MRN, they saw the numbers were pretty good in the show and they asked me if I thought that I was capable of kind of leading the show and doing it myself. I asked my best buddy [tire changer Ryan] Flores to jump on with me. And we got [NASCAR producers] Chuck [Bush] and [Jonathan] Merriman. And it has grown into much more than what I think we all anticipated. Over two million downloads total last year, which is pretty cool — obviously a lot of recurring people.”
Additionally, LaJoie mentioned building relationships with a lot of different people from different backgrounds in NASCAR as one of the reasons he’s happy with the show.

“We’ve talked to a ton of people on the show,” added the Spire Motorsports wheelman. “It’s allowed me to grow in that area to see the sport in a different light besides just the blinders of being a competitor.
“And then also, it’s allowed me to kind of cultivate relationships with a lot of people at NASCAR.”
Alas, LaJoie and the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Denny Hamlin have been essential to growing the sport, as the NASCAR personalities and their podcasting prowess have helped take it to places many never would’ve expected. The unparalleled insight you get from hearing from a driver who’s in the car every week is second to none, and it makes for a truly fascinating listen.
While Corey LaJoie’s main focus is the racetrack, it’s been a fun ride getting to learn more about him off the track, and it’s something he’ll continue being passionate about and shedding light on moving forward.
