Corey LaJoie shares update on his condition after flipping over on backstretch at Michigan
One of the scariest wrecks of the weekend at the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan was a flip involving Corey LaJoie, who went fully airborne and took several spins vertically.
LaJoie was able to get out of the vehicle and was checked at the infield care center, where he was deemed all right.
But sometimes the impact of those kinds of crashes can creep up and begin to be felt in the days after the collision. LaJoie confirmed as much on Tuesday when updating his status on his Stacking Pennies podcast.
“I got, if 3,000 people didn’t ask me if I was doing OK, not one had, but I’m doing fine, appreciate you for asking,” LaJoie said. “Pretty much just more frustrated with how the year has gone more than how I feel. I’m sore, but just pretty pissed off that we had a really good car and continue to not show result for it.”
The accident, which happened while Corey LaJoie was jockeying for position in the top 20 with Noah Gragson, was a scary one.

LaJoie’s car made contact with Gragson, swerving to the left ever so slightly. As his front end went sideways, the entire vehicle picked up air and LaJoie went flipping side over side. He skid on the roof of the car, all the way until he got into the infield wall and then the grass, where his car finally flipped over and settled back on the wheels.
The point from Corey LaJoie about being more upset with how the race finished than his actual health is a salient one, though.
LaJoie currently ranks just 31st in the Cup Series on points, well outside the playoff qualification zone. He has secured just one one top five finish and two top 10s. Worse, the top five finish came all the way back at Daytona earlier in the year.
But perhaps LaJoie can use that earlier success from this year and turn it into a better finish, maybe even a win, this weekend.
