Expect news to come out regarding Corey LaJoie’s future with Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series as a contract extension is being finalized. Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reported that the two are coming together for a multi-year deal to keep LaJoie with the organization.

Corey LaJoie will stay with the No. 7 Chevy team. While the driver has had his struggles this season, he’s doing the best he’s ever done. His time filling in for Chase Elliott did not go as he had planned, but his wider body of work speaks for itself.

The Stacking Pennies host takes that mantra very seriously. He’s pulling Spire Motorsports along as he picks up top-20 finishes and tries to punch into the top-5. His team believes in him. Bianchi reports that the deal will be complete in weeks to come.

At 31 years old, Corey LaJoie has been seen as a driver that could be an up-and-comer in the Cup Series. However, many speculated that he might try out free agency. It is clear that he is going to be with Spire in the coming seasons. Unless something wild happens, LaJoie is in that No. 7 Camaro for the next few years.

This NASCAR season has not gone exactly how LaJoie foresaw it, I’m sure. However, he’s taken the improvement in stride and knows it is all about making those small steps. When you are looking for those extra points at the end of the year, it helps to finish races.

Corey LaJoie is finishing races, plain and simple

Looking back on his season in 2022 and comparing it to 2023, Corey LaJoie has one secret to his success. He’s averaging a finish in the top-20 this season, despite only having one top-5 and one top-10 to his record this year.

“By finishing races. We only completed 83 percent of the laps last year, and you cannot get points if you don’t finish races. We had a lot of mechanical mistakes take us out of contention,” LaJoie explained to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. He also took credit for his mistakes. “We also had a couple driver’s mistakes as well that resulted in DNFs.

“Cleaning those up was certainly the No. 1 of our priority list. And we’ve done that so far halfway through the year.”

Building off of this success, and a contract extension on the way, Corey LaJoie and Spire Motorsports will have more time to work on improving on and off the track. LaJoie had a disappointing Sunday in Atlanta, finishing P31 after taking some damage.

Still, there are more opportunities on the horizon for LaJoie to make a playoff run.
