The Longhorns made their way into the national semifinal matchup following thier victory over Arizona State in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Texas held a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Sun Devils mounted an improbable comeback to send the game into overtime. After trading touchdowns during the first overtime period, Texas scored on its first play of the second extra period and subsequently picked off Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt to seal the Longhorns’ fate.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers finished the game with 322 passing yards, four total touchdowns and an interception during the contest. However, the Sun Devils held the Longhorns to 53 yards on the ground, something they’ll have to clean up by the time the Cotton Bowl comes around.

The next game, which featured Ohio State vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl, was a rematch of one of the most consequential games of the regular season. The Ducks defeated the Buckeyes on their home turf back in October, which saw time literally run out on Ohio State and sealing the Oregon win.

Many believed the rematch would come during the Big Ten Championship game, but the Buckeyes’ loss to Michigan in the regular season finale kept Ohio State out of the conference championship.

That ended up not being the case, and the two Big Ten teams wouldn’t meet until the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.

In the end, Ohio State came out victorious after taking control early and is now set to meet the Texas Longhorns in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl. The winner will go on to play in the national championship game, something that has eluded both squads for several years.
