Mike McCarthy on DeMarvion Overshown injury: 'Doesn’t look too serious'
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that DeMarvion Overshown suffered a hip injury. But the situation “doesn’t look too serious.”
Overshown hurt his hip in training camp on Wednesday. His coaches and teammates were right to be worried for him. After all, this time last year, the former Texas Longhorn star tore his ACL and needed season-ending knee surgery. So there was real concern for the second-year player, given how hard he’d worked to get back to the field.
Reports from Cowboys camp in Oxnard said that Overshown was not dressed out for Thursday’s practice.
The linebacker saw action Sunday in the Cowboys road game against the Rams. He made three tackles. And he also was reunited with former Longhorn receiver Jordan Whittington, who now plays for the Rams.
The two reshared a snap on social media showing the former teammates at SoFi Stadium. The Cowboys linebacker captioned the photo “Brothers 4 life” and used a burnt orange heart and a Hook ’em emoji to emphasize the point.

In the Cowboys post-game availabilty, Overshown told reporters how important it was to put on the uniform and hit someone in a game.
“Just to make a play in an actual game, waiting for that moment again,’’ the Cowboys linebacker said. “Feeling those emotions again. Living my dream all over again. … The journey was definitely worth it.’’
And Overshown added another important detail. He didn’t dwell on his knee, which he hurt in the Cowboys second preseason game in August, 2023.
“Actually, you know, when you’re playing football you have a lot of bumps and bruises,” Overshown said. “You go in with one injury and after the second play you get kneed in the hip, and it’s like, ‘yeah, this knee ain’t nothing compared to this.’
“The knee, that’s been out of my mind. I trusted the training staff and the strength staff this whole process. One of the main things they said was when you go again, you’re going to be good. The knee’s not even a question.’’
