Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb connect for longest TD pass of NFL season
Did you see this spectacular play in the Cowboys-Lions game involving Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb? The two dazzled with a 92-yard touchdown to get Dallas on the scoreboard.
The play is the longest touchdown reception this season in the NFL. And you also need this caveat. The Lions rush was closing in on Prescott in the end zone for a potential safety. Instead, Prescott ducked a tackle and wriggled out of the safety danger zone. Stepping off his back foot, the Cowboys quarterback heaved the ball towards Lamb, who caught it at midfield. The Lions defender fell down. And Lamb could’ve skipped the rest of the way and not been caught.
Will the play evolve into soul-crusher for the Lions? There’s still a ton of time remaining in the game.

Play ranks as second longest in Cowboys team history
The play also has the distinction of the second-longest in Cowboys history. The record is 57 years old. Don Meredith and “Bullet” Bob Hayes combined for a 95-yarder in a 31-30 win over Washington way back in 1966.
Lamb’s touchdown catch gave him 111 receptions for the season. That tied Michael Irvin’s team record for catches in a season. Lamb broke the record early in the second quarter. But he’ll definitely want to forget the moment. That’s because he fumbled as he fought to get into the end zone. It ended as a touchback for the Lions.

Detroit-Dallas game is mainly about NFC seeding
But the Cowboys were living right on the play. The Lions, using a fake punt to extend the drive, marched downfield. But on fourth down from the Cowboys 4, Jared Goff couldn’t connect with tight end Sam LaPorta.
Technically, this Cowboys-Lions contest on Saturday night is a Monday Night Football telecast. It’s also one of the top games this weekend. The Lions need to win to keep their remote hopes for the No. 1 NFC seed for the playoffs. They’ve already secured the NFC North divisional title.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys must win to stay in contention for the NFC East. They don’t control their own destiny. If the Eagles win out, then Philadelphia earns the division for the second straight year. The Cowboys likely will be the fifth seed after the four division winners.
