Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown flexes offseason gains amid return from ACL tear
Before making his grand return for his second season with the Cowboys, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown took to Instagram to flex his gains. Overshown missed his rookie season with Dallas after suffering an ACL tear in a preseason game against the Seahawks. If his post on social media is any indication, he appears ready for a major comeback in 2024.
Overshown was the Cowboys’ third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He went No. 90 overall out of Texas. As a rookie, he weighed in at 220 pounds.
The Cowboys could have used Overshown on the field in 2023. They lost Leighton Vander Esch for the year after Week 5 and the veteran went on to retire after the season. Before his injury, the former Texas star was “climbing,” according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
“He was climbing. He was climbing the charts,” McCarthy said. “… Showed up right away in the offseason program, just his ability to fly around. Really has excellent command.”
In the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Overshown led the team huddle after warmups and recorded six combined tackles by halftime to pace all of Dallas’ defenders.

Overshown on track to play by training camp
Overshown told DallasCowboys.com that he is right on schedule with his recovery earlier this month. He’s of the mentality that his injury doesn’t have to be a setback and his career can get right back on track when he hits the field this summer.
“We’re pushing right at six months out,” Overshown said. “Everything is going good. We’re starting to move around. We’re ahead of the curve. It’s just a process…This isn’t what my rookie year was supposed to be, but you get up and you do it every day.”
Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is in the same situation with his ACL. Like Overshown, he also is on track for training camp. He also rehabbed with fellow rookies John Stephens Jr. and wide receiver David Durden.
“All of those guys, they make it so much easier,” the Cowboys linebacker said. “It’s days where you can find yourself in a dark place. But you get there and you’re laughing and cutting up with those guys and seeing that they’re going through the same process. I just see this as a blessing in disguise. It will make me a better football player, a better teammate, a better man and all of that in general.”
