Micah Parsons, the ace pass rusher for the Cowboys, rarely is at a loss for words. The Dallas defender offers his opinion on everything.

So he definitely reacted to the NFL’s announcement that the league planned to increase the salary cap by $30.6 million per team.

Parsons definitely loved the news. However, he didn’t use words to express himself. Just emojis. Try four straight bundles of cash emojis. Because 2024 will be the year of the zero, lots and lots of zeroes.

And as luck would have it, the Cowboys are expected to talk money with Parsons sometime soon. He’s headed into the fourth year of his rookie contract. However, the Cowboys can choose to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2025 season. According to the numbers released Friday, Parsons is due a one-year salary of $24,007,000. It’s based on his position. Linebackers are the second-highest paid after quarterbacks. And Parsons has earned spots in multiple Pro Bowls.

Teams have until May 2 to notify players on whether they’ll be picking up the options. You can check out the salaries, by position, by clicking here. Of course, the Cowboys can do more than merely pick up Parsons fifth year. They can extend his deal. The edge rusher isn’t looking to go anywhere.

“I love Cowboys nation,” Parsons said on the red carpet of NFL Honors earlier this month. “I’m extremely grateful to still be a Cowboy. And I hope I’m a Cowboy for life.”

Parsons should be an easy negotiation for Dallas. But owner Jerry Jones has two more big decisions to make in regards to salaries.

Receiver CeeDee Lamb is heading into his fifth-year. And he’ll command a hefty raise after the season he enjoyed in 2023. Best estimates are he’ll get about $30 million. That’ll place him somewhere in the vicinity of highest-paid receiver in the league. Tyreek Hill currently has that honor. However, Justin Jefferson could knock him out of the top spot.

“I can’t give you no numbers right now, but I’ll tell you this, [I want to be] one of the top paid receivers for sure, if not the [highest-paid receiver],” Lamb said, on Parsons’ podcast earlier this month. “That’s always the goal.”

The Cowboys also have a goal of dealing with Dak Prescott‘s contract. Dallas will extend Prescott to $60 million a year. That would make him the highest-paid player in league history until the next quarterback comes along.
