The contract situation of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been heavily discussed this offseason but with the season opener just two days away, Jerry Jones is done talking about it.

Jones, speaking on 105.3 The Fan Friday, said ahead of Sunday’s Week 1 road contest against the Cleveland Browns that he has nothing to say concerning contract negotiations with Prescott.

“I won’t be discussing anything at all about Dak’s business or contract at this particular time,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

The same goes for head coach Mike McCarthy who like Prescott, is working with one year left on his contract. Dallas previously announced McCarthy, who has led the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-5 seasons, wouldn’t receive a contract extension ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Though Jones has yet to affirm his commitment to both monetarily, he insists he’s “satisfied” with both.

“I will say this, I couldn’t be more satisfied with either one of them, at all,” Jones said. “So, that’s not the issue.”

Cowboys working on new deal for Dak Prescott?

Prescott, 31, is coming off a season in which he finished second in NFL MVP voting, tossing a league-leading 37 touchdowns and throwing for 4,516 yards. He led the Cowboys to an NFC East title, but Dallas saw another promising season end in disappointment. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Cowboys, 48-32, in the NFC Wild Card Round.

The Cowboys have already locked up star receiver CeeDee Lamb for the future, however, Prescott remains unsigned. Prescott said Thursday the Cowboys and his agent, Todd France, are working on it.

“I would say that they’re working,” Prescott said. “I don’t know if that’s necessarily the timeline. Can’t say, oh, hell I’ll put a timeline on to Todd [France] and Stephen [Jones] if we don’t get this done, this or that. But I know they’re working.”

Mike McCarthy explains working under one-year contract

As for McCarthy, he understands that the only thing that “truly pays the bills is winning games.”

“I’m thankful and appreciate the opportunity in front of me,” McCarthy said this week. “That’s really how it’s been. I get what goes with contracts and I really don’t want to speak on it, because I haven’t spoke on it, because there’s really nothing to talk about. It doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is today. And that’s really something we can all just stay in touch with because we do have responsibilities outside of winning games. But the only thing that truly pays the bills is winning games.

“That’s where my mind is at. I’m 30-plus years into this. We know how things work. I can’t stand up in front of a group of men and consistently on a daily basis demand that they focus their time and energy on winning, and then I’m up here talking about things that have nothing to do with winning. I guess that’s how I deal with it.”
