Newly hired Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is wasting no time in looking for candidates to fill out his coaching staff.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Cowboys have requested an interview with Atlanta Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger for their offensive coordinator position.

Koger, 35, would be a first-time offensive coordinator if hired. He spent this past season in Atlanta after a three-year stay with the Los Angeles Chargers as their tight ends coach. The former Michigan tight end previously held assistant roles at Saline High School (2012), Michigan (2013-14), Tennessee (2015), Eastern Kentucky (2016-18) and with the Green Bay Packers (2019-20).

As for Schottenheimer, he is replacing Mike McCarthy, who mutually parted ways with Dallas after five seasons and three playoff appearances. Schottenheimer, who served as McCarthy’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons, is stepping into arguably the best opening on the market with a talent-laden roster in “win now” mode. Team owner Jerry Jones actually declared the Cowboys as “all-in” for the 2024 season, though injuries derailed them. Dallas finished 7-10, missing out on the postseason.

Schottenheimer, 51, has been a longtime offensive coordinator in both the NFL and at the collegiate level. He joined the Cowboys’ staff as a coaching analyst in 2022 and McCarthy promoted him to offensive coordinator ahead of the 2023 season after parting ways with Kellen Moore. McCarthy called plays in both seasons with Schottenheimer as his offensive coordinator.

Before his current stint in Dallas, Schottenheimer had stops with the Los Angeles Rams (1997, 2012-14), Kansas City Chiefs (1998), Syracuse (1999), USC (2000), Washington Commanders (2001), Los Angeles Chargers (2002-05), New York Jets (2006-11), Georgia (2015), Indianapolis Colts (2016-17), Seattle Seahawks (2018-20) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2021).

The Cowboys will hold a press conference Monday at Noon ET to formally announce the decision.
