Dallas Cowboys rookie Micah Parsons crossed another life goal off his checklist, fulfilling a life-long dream of his and his mother’s. The rookie linebacker from Penn State bought his mother a house. Parsons shared pictures of the home, via TMZ Sports.
A life-long dream
Being drafted high in the NFL is a dream come true for those who earn a first-round selection. Signing their first professional contract means having financial options you didn’t have even months prior. When the Dallas Cowboys selected rookie Micah Parsons, he already knew one of his first purchases was going to be for his mother.
“One goal after another! Going to be a great year!” stated Parsons as reported by TMZ Sports. They shared images showing the size of his family’s new home, with a smiling Parsons and his mother in front of the property.”
Parsons shared prior to the draft his desire to help his family.
“I want to finally get my own house, clear my mom’s debt, I moved a lot when I was younger and if I could put me and my mother into our own home and have something to call ours, it would be amazing.”
Cowboys rookie Micah Parsons is impressing early
Dallas picked Parsons with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. After finalizing his rookie contract, he signed a deal worth $17 million over four years. The contract is fully guaranteed and includes a near $10 million signing bonus.
As early as training camp’s start the Cowboys seemed pleased with their decision.
“You can see the ability and just the instinct, the way he can react and get off the spot at the linebacker position. We’re just going through our installs, going through our concepts. But he’s fitting in real nicely,” stated head coach Mike McCarthy via AllPennState’s Mark Wogenrich.
Joining the talented Dallas Cowboys linebacker unit is no easy feat, and Parsons is integrating with the team well. The Cowboys hope he’s capable of filling a starting role for them by the season opener.

Penn State success
Parsons played two seasons for the Penn State Nittany Lions, including a stellar 2019 season. In 2019 he ranked third in the Big Ten in total tackles, amassing 109 total and 5.0 sacks. In 2020 Parsons opted not to play in the Penn State season citing concerns over health and safety. In a post on his Instagram, Parsons detailed his reason for the decision.
“As I considered my options for the 2020 season, I decided I needed to make a choice not for myself, but my son and those dearest to me. While I felt safe with the health and safety standards as we returned to Penn State for workouts, the potential risk to the health and wellbeing of my son far outweighed my urge to play football season. Therefore, I have decided to opt out of the 2020 season and prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.”
Penn State was more than happy to congratulate their former player, sharing on Twitter their pride in his new home purchase.
“Picture this: You’re 22 years old. You’re a Penn State grad. You were just selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. You finally get the chance to buy your mom a house like you’ve always dreamed to do. Life is good. Proud of you, @MicahhParsons11.”
