Following his driver from this past season, Ben Beshore is joining Legacy Motor Club to be John Hunter Nemechek’s crew chief next year. Both Nemechek and Beshore are moving up to Legacy in the NASCAR Cup Series from Joe Gibbs Racing’s Xfinity Series program.

John Hunter Nemechek, with Beshore on the pit box, won a series-leading seven races in 2023. Nemechek ultimately came up short in his quest for an Xfinity Series championship. However, it was a great season that showed he had made the improvements needed.

Nemechek is going to be very comfortable with Beshore on the box. The crew chief also worked with Kyle Busch in the Cup Series previously. With Legacy Motor Club transitioning to Toyota, this move makes a ton of sense.

What can these two get done in 2024?

“I’m excited to join LEGACY MOTOR CLUB and continue working with John Hunter in the Cup Series – we had so much success last season,” Beshore said, via Legacy Motor Club. “I’m looking forward to helping build this program into a perennial contender that can compete at the highest level possible each and every week.”

John Hunter Nemechek is just as excited to continue working with Beshore.

“The partnership between driver and crew chief requires a type of chemistry that is hard to find,” said Nemechek. “As a driver, if you’re lucky enough to find a crew chief that you mesh with as well as Ben and I do, you do everything possible to stick together. I look forward to building on our competitive partnership and fighting for more wins and championships.”

Of course, there’s a great driver behind this whole organization, Jimmie Johnson. He’s racing more in 2024 and he’s happy to be bringing this driver and crew chief back together.

John Hunter Nemechek moving up to Cup Series

While he won’t be a rookie in 2024, John Hunter Nemechek is an interesting young driver. He was probably thrown into the deep end too early. There were a number of young drivers pushed too soon to the Cup Series around 2019-2021. This time around, JHN is hoping things are different.

The whole career reset has been nothing short of amazing. From the Truck Series to Xfinity, Nemechek has won races and competed for championships. Give him time to develop with Legacy, and good things are coming.

Let’s not pretend like we expect Nemechek to win seven races in the Cup Series next year. No one does. However, I fully expect Legacy as a whole to improve. I think with Toyota, Erik Jones can be a playoff driver and Nemechek can outrun the incoming rookie class.

Again, I know he’s not a rookie, but with Carson Hocevar, Zane Smith, and Josh Berry as the rookie class, that’s not a bad group to be lumped in with.

Ben Beshore is joining Legacy “effective immediately” so he and John Hunter Nemechek will have a full offseason of work heading into next year’s Daytona Speedweeks.
