Dak Prescott addresses his availability for Cowboys vs. Lions
Dak Prescott could be nearing a return following the first loss the Cowboys have suffered with Cooper Rush guiding them.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Prescott is feeling “fantastic” and plans to be back on the field for next weekend’s game against the Detroit Lions.

“Dak Prescott on whether he’ll be back this coming week for the #Cowboys against the #Lions: ‘Yeah, sure, that’s my plan.’,” tweeted Garafolo. “Dak Prescott added he felt ‘great, fantastic’ throwing pregame tonight.”
The news of Prescott returning to the lineup will be more than welcomed by Dallas faithful, as the Cowboys offense has been missing his presence over recent weeks. Additionally, Melissa Stark of NBC’s Sunday Night Football explained that if it were up to Prescott alone, the former Mississippi State quarterback would’ve played Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“September 12th, he had surgery,” explained Stark. “A plate and seven screws inserted to stabilize the fracture at the base of his right thumb. He told me he expects them to stay in permanently. He was given a four-to-six week return window, and next Sunday marks week six.

“In pregame warmups he said if it were up to him, 100 percent he would’ve played tonight. But that there’s been a plan in place and that he didn’t want to push it. He said his grip strength is an A right now, he wants it to be an A-plus.”
According to Prescott, his return to the field is pending the all-clear from Dallas and his trainers believing he’s fully recovered. The injury that Prescott suffered is one that doesn’t necessarily carry major risk of re-injury, but his hand’s health isn’t the troublesome part of the fracture — it was his ability to grip a football and make throws necessary for the NFL.
With his thumb limited in any capacity, control of the football would likely be difficult to the point where Dallas made the decision to continue using Rush in relief at the head of their offense. Alas, the former Central Michigan signal caller has performed admirably in his role as backup, going undefeated as a starter up until Sunday and leading Dallas prior to Sunday’s matchup with the unbeaten Eagles.
Irregardless, Dak Prescott will be welcomed back with open arms when he returns to the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys, and it looks like that day is arriving in Week 7.
