The Dallas Cowboys are little more than a week away from debuting the Mike McCarthy-led offense after a long summer of talk and speculation. One thing about the new offense is for sure: there’s a whole lot of speed.

On top of running backs Tony Pollard, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also has CeeDee Lamb and well-known speedster Brandin Cooks to take the top off of defenses.

Star returnman KaVontae Turpin is also supposed to be more involved in the offense this season.

Prescott bragged about his unit’s speed this week after practice.

“Yeah, a lot of speed. You can name a lot of guys,” Prescott said, via DallasCowboys.com. “(We have a) few guys that have speed but are playmakers. Speed is one thing, but to be a playmaker is another thing.”

It sounds like the seven-year veteran likes what the Cowboys’ front office put together for him this offseason. Now it’s time to implement the changes McCarthy installed in the offense – and execute to perfection.

“For me, it’s about getting these guys the ball,” Prescott added. “Whether it’s in the run game or the pass game, or just out in space to allow them to do what they do best – break tackles, make people miss and show off their speed. We’ve got a handful of guys and that’s going to make my job easier.”

Jerry Jones expecting the ‘expected’ from Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys need Dak Prescott to clean up his game after notching a career-high in interceptions last season. According to Jerry Jones, the Cowboys would be shocked if the former Mississippi State star came close to that number in 2023.

“What I expect is not the unexpected. What last year represented relative to turnovers was unexpected,” Jones said this summer. “I expect to see what we expect from Dak, which is don’t turn the ball over, be protective of the ball.

“When I think of Dak, that’s the first thing that comes to my mind. That’s what he does good.”

Although Dallas would have undoubtedly been in better shape without Prescott’s interceptions last season, they were, on the whole, an anomaly for him.

The former fourth-round pick has had three seasons with fewer than 10 interceptions and four seasons with 10 or more. Through his first seven seasons in the league, the Cowboys QB has only thrown picks on 2% of his pass attempts, compared to 3.8% last season.

The regular season gets underway for Dallas on Sunday versus the New York Giants. Kickoff is slated for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.
