Dak Prescott had the opportunity to be part of Netflix’s Quarterback documentary series, which just recently dropped. For those who haven’t yet tuned in, the Cowboys quarterback obviously declined, as a the program highlights Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota.

Why didn’t Prescott want to join in on the show? He gave a pretty concise answer this week.

“I get enough media,” Prescott said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “This team gets enough coverage.”

So, it sounds like Prescott didn’t want to have to deal with any further distractions. And after a disappointing end to the previous season in the playoffs, who could blame him?

Outside of the New York market, Dallas might be the team that receives the most media attention in the NFL. The “love ’em or hate ’em” mindset among fans makes them a popular franchise to cover.

Camera crews followed Mahomes, Cousins and Mariota through the 2022 NFL season. The documentary highlighted the behind-the-scenes moments for three different quarterbacks, all playing at different levels of the league.

Sports documentaries continue to grow in popularity, and this one was no difference. Especially in the summer months, fans flock to football content.

Prescott was probably wise to avoid the extra media attention.

Justin Fields also turned down Netflix special ‘Quarterback’

Prescott wasn’t alone in his decision to avoid extra media attention. Bears quarterback Justin Fields also declined an invitation, but his offer was for Season 2.

Fields, a younger NFL quarterback, pointed to similar concerns about media attention.

“They actually did reach out, and I don’t think I want to do it,” Fields said. “Just because I’d rather keep everything the way it is around here. I think just having cameras around the building, I think that may change the vibe of everyone. I just want to keep it natural, organic and really just focus on what’s going on in the building.

“Maybe down the road, but I don’t think I see myself doing it this year at least.”

Fields just completed his second season in the NFL after being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Right now, his focus is getting the Bears back into the playoff picture.

Recently, Peyton Manning, one of the producers, said that the show was headed for a second season.

“Look, we are all set to move forward with season two of this series Quarterback,” Manning said in an interview with Netflix. “And we have a lot of quarterbacks that want to do it because now they realize, ‘Hey, if I do this, I’m going to win the Super Bowl and be the MVP of the league.’ Right? Mahomes has shown that.”
