Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has continued to progress in his recovery following a season-ending hamstring injury last year. With signs pointing to the star QB making a return in time for the 2025 season, Prescott revealed a positive update on his status as the offseason marches on.

“I’m getting close to where I want to be. I don’t want to put a percentage on it,” Prescott revealed on Friday at the 35th annual Children’s Cancer Fund gala, via ESPN. “I know we’ve got team activities coming up, imagine myself being involved in some sort if not all. Then again I just understand my age, what I’ve had, what I’ve went through, it’s about being my best in the fall. So I’m not rushing anything, but I’m where I want to be.”

The hamstring injury Prescott sustained in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons ended up requiring surgery, and he hasn’t played since. Nearly five months later, the Cowboys QB doesn’t appear to have experienced any setbacks. Back in March Prescott said that he doesn’t see any reason for his availability for Week 1.

“If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” Prescott said on Friday. “It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 [games] — whatever we get to when the time’s right.”

Prescott, 31, had an up-and-down year before going down with injury. This came after signing a lucrative contract extension ahead of the season, which made him the NFL’s highest-paid player at the time. He would go on to complete 64.7% of his passes – the second-worst rate of his career – for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Cowboys would end up finishing the season 7-10 without Prescott in the lineup for the second half of the season. Dallas would miss the postseason for the first time after three consecutive playoff appearances.

Prescott will enter 2025, his 10th NFL season, with 31,437 career passing yards, 213 touchdowns to 82 interceptions and a 66.8-percent completion percentage.

Dallas Cowboys restructure Dak Prescott contract, free up $36.6 million in cap space

The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have come to an agreement on a restructured contract that creates $36.6 million in cap space, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. It comes one day after the Cowboys restructured CeeDee Lamb‘s contract, with the two deals opening up $56.6 million in cap space ahead of NFL free agency later this month.

Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a record four-year, $240 million contract extension just prior to the start of the 2024 NFL season that gave Prescott the highest average annual value in NFL history.

By restructuring Prescott’s deal, the Cowboys converted $45.75 million of Prescott’s base salary into a signing bonus, reducing his 2025 cap figure from $89.89 million to $53.29 million, according to Archer.
