Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys QB gives new details on hamstring ailment
Dallas Cowboys (3-5) quarterback Dak Prescott revealed the details behind the hamstring injury he sustained in the third quarter of Sunday’s 27-21 Week 9 road defeat to the Atlanta Falcons (6-3) while speaking with the media after the game.
Prescott, who admitted it was tough to walk after the injury, said he didn’t want to come out of the game initially. The team’s medical staff determined he couldn’t protect himself, prompting his removal from the game.
“I gotta get it looked at,” Prescott said, via Jeff Darlington of ESPN. “Didn’t think much of it — then the next play, I felt a pull. That’s something I never felt. It was tough to walk on it at that point. I asked if I could make it worse. The [medical staff] said I wouldn’t be able to protect myself. I wanted to get out there and compete. I wanted to get out there and fight.”
Prescott injured his hamstring on one of his final throws of the game. After Prescott let go of the ball, he appeared to be in pain based on the expression on his face. He was evaluated in the blue medical tent before Dallas ruled him out. Prescott was also dealing with swelling in his throwing hand.

Dallas has now dropped three consecutive games and next up is a pivotal NFC East home matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2). The Cowboys have underwhelmed offensively this season with Prescott under center, and those struggles could continue if Prescott is sidelined for any amount of time.
Team owner Jerry Jones said he is “concerned” about the possibility of Prescott missing time with the injury.
“I am concerned about that,” said Jones, when asked his concern level of Prescott missing time. “It concerned me when I saw the play. I saw him have a reaction to any weakness he might have had there in his hand. We just have to take a look at that.”
