Dak Prescott is expected to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

“Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury was worse than initially feared. He is expected to miss multiple weeks, sources tell me and Tom Pelissero,” Rapoport wrote on Twitter. “In fact, this is not looking like a short-term injury. Cooper Rush is the team’s backup.”

The Dallas Cowboys fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss ahead of a rivalry game with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Prescott, who admitted it was tough to walk after the injury, said he didn’t want to come out of the game initially. The team’s medical staff determined he couldn’t protect himself, prompting his removal from the game.

“I gotta get it looked at,” Prescott said, via Jeff Darlington of ESPN. “Didn’t think much of it — then the next play, I felt a pull. That’s something I never felt. It was tough to walk on it at that point. I asked if I could make it worse. The [medical staff] said I wouldn’t be able to protect myself. I wanted to get out there and compete. I wanted to get out there and fight.”

Prescott completed 18-of-24 passes for 133 yards and one score before leaving the game. Cooper Rush replaced him under center in the fourth quarter, completing 13-of-25 passes for 115 yards and a four-yard touchdown strike to receiver Jalen Tolbert.

Dallas has now dropped three consecutive games and next up is a pivotal NFC East home matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles (6-2). The Cowboys have underwhelmed offensively this season with Prescott under center, and those struggles could continue if Prescott is sidelined for any amount of time.
