Dak Prescott injury update: Mike McCarthy gives new details on Cowboys QB status
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said quarterback Dak Prescott will not play this Sunday vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. Prescott suffered a hamstring injury this past Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
McCarthy did not get into the specifics of Prescott’s injury, but there will be conversations about the Pro Bowl QB being placed on injured reserve if he’s expected to miss several weeks.
Prescott suffered the injury after a 5-yard scramble in the third quarter in the 27-21 loss to the Falcons. “I felt it when I was getting up from the run,” Prescott said Sunday, per ESPN. “I can’t even say that I felt it running. The tackle, maybe something on the tackle. Yeah, I don’t know, but when I was standing up, I felt something actually. Didn’t think it was much. You get tired. It’s a physical game. A lot of times you feel different things and they kind of go away.”
Prescott ended his day with 133 yards and one touchdown while completing 18 of his 24 passes. He also had a season-high 30 yards rushing, including a 22-yard run in the second quarter. Backup QB Cooper Rush took over and went 13-of-25 for 115 yards and one touchdown. With Prescott out against the Eagles, Rush will likely start and Trey Lance will be his backup.

A look at Dak Prescott’s stats in 2024
Through eight games this year, Prescott has completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions with a passer rating of 86.0. Before the season, the Mississippi State alum signed a four-year, $240 million contract that made him the highest-paid QB in the NFL.
“I hope after today we’re done talking about it and my pockets,” Prescott said after the team’s season-opening win against the Cleveland Browns in September, per the team’s official website. “And could just move forward and focus on this team and the success that we plan to have and what we’re working toward.”
