Dak Prescott injury update: Stephen Jones hints at possible surgery for Cowboys QB
News surrounding Dak Prescott has only gotten worse since leaving Sunday’s game against Atlanta with an injury. Prescott could wind up missing the rest of the 2024 season, leaving the Cowboys with Cooper Rush at quarterback. Nothing official has been made but at the very least, Dallas will be without him for quite some time.
On Thursday, Dallas Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones hinted at a possible surgery for Prescott. Everyone involved in the situation is still seeking out different opinions on the matter before making a decision, though.
Jones does believe a stint on Injured Reserve is required but the long-term status has yet to fully be determined.
“More than likely, he’ll be on (injured reserve) by the end of the week,” Jones said on Thursday. “We’re just making sure we’re checking all the options. With his situation, it’s probably gonna be one that is gonna take a full four weeks before he could even think about making a return, if not longer… At some point (the injury) could (require surgery). No one is recommending it now.”

A report from Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News revealed the surgery might be required as Prescott deals with a partial avulsion of his right hamstring tendon. Jones speaking about it was the first from anybody on the Cowboys’ side.
Prescott has dealt with a season-ending injury before, going back to the 2020 season. Dallas did not fare too well without him and finished with a 6-10 record. However, it did help them acquire a high enough draft pick to select Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys are currently 3-5 and in the midst of a three-game losing streak. NFC East rival Philadelphia is coming to AT&T Stadium on Sunday and Prescott will be watching from the sideline. Cooper Rush will be out there with the first-team offense, potentially having the role for the final nine games.
