Dak Prescott reacts to Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer as head coach

Although many Cowboys fans have been hesitant to embrace new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, Dak Prescott is excited to usher in the new era. On Tuesday, the Cowboys QB discussed his thoughts on the hire.
“I’m excited for him, this opportunity,” Prescott said. “Obviously, I’ve worked with him for the last couple of years and understand the type of coach he is, the type of man he is, the way that he approaches the game.
“… He’s not going to take anything about this game lightly. He enjoys the work in it. [He’s] kind of old-fashioned. I’m looking forward to the grind, and some things that we’re going to do and he’s going to add. Excited for him. I know he’s ready for it. He’s been an assistant for a long time.”
Schottenheimer will replace Mike McCarthy, who was the Cowboys’ head coach from 2020-24. The Cowboys officially parted ways with McCarthy on Jan. 13, after he failed to lead the team to the playoffs. During McCarthy’s four years at the helm of the organization, the Cowboys posted a 49-35 record and a 1-3 mark in the postseason.
The Cowboys initially hired Schottenheimer as a consultant in 2022. However, he was promoted to offensive coordinator on Feb. 4, 2023.

In Schottenheimer’s first season calling plays for the Cowboys’ offense, Dak Prescott reaped the benefits, racking up 4,516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns compared to just nine interceptions.
Unfortunately for Prescott, he wasn’t able to enjoy the benefits of Schottenheimer’s play-calling this past season, as he suffered a season-ending injury halfway through the season. Now, Dak Prescott will look to fully embrace Schottenheimer’s leadership and help the Cowboys reach new heights.
“Something else I admire is the way that he went on with the interviewing process,” Prescott said about Schottenheimer. “When you’ve been an assistant for 25 to 30 years, I know there’s a quarterbacks coach, I know there’s a receivers coach, a [defensive] coordinator, and a safeties [coach] that you could call up without them thinking twice about coming to work for you.
“For him to go through the due diligence of getting the guys in, interviewing them, and taking that amongst the other guys that are there and making final decisions, I think speaks highly of his approach, and the way that he’s going to take care of things.”
