Dak Prescott reacts to Jerry Jones' comments on CeeDee Lamb contract situation
Jerry Jones is making headlines once again, saying there is no urgency to get a deal with CeeDee Lamb done. Dallas will play in their first preseason game of the year on Sunday but are still without their star wide receiver in training camp. It’s been a lengthy contract negotiation with seemingly no end in sight.
Dak Prescott spoke to the media shortly after Jones, reacting to the comments made. If you ask the Cowboys quarterback, there definitely is some urgency to get Lamb signed.
“I can tell you I got a sense of urgency for it to happen,” Prescott said via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.
Prescott is going through a contract situation with the Jones family himself. He is currently unsigned after the 2024 season and could maybe be heading for free agency. Both sides have said talks are ongoing and Prescott could potentially have an extension before the Sept. 8 against Cleveland.
Lamb is fresh off his best-ever season in the NFL, being named first-team All-Pro and finishing third in Offensive Player of the Year voting. His 135 receptions led the league while adding 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns — all career highs.
Even the postseason loss against Green Bay saw good numbers, even if the game was decided early in the first half. Lamb went for 110 yards on nine receptions in what turned out to be another devastating early-round playoff loss.

So, yes — it’s easy to understand why Prescott wants No. 88 back on the field. Those two were one of the best connections in the NFL last season and will be even more important moving forward. The Cowboys running game does not project to be the most prolific and a lot will be put on the quarterback’s shoulders.
As of now, the top wide receiver Prescott is throwing to is Brandin Cooks. Jalen Tolbert is taking on a bigger role as well, hopefully sliding into WR3 territory if/when Lamb is back with the team.
Prescott certainly hopes it’s when and not if with Lamb. Getting some work in together before live snaps certainly would help as well.
In an ideal world, the contract negotiations are over in the near future, Lamb gets paid, and Dallas can turn 100% of the focus over toward winning in 2024. It’s a year where the Cowboys desperately need to make a deep playoff run or a new era could be beginning.
