Dak Prescott reveals he spoke to Ezekiel Elliott ahead of Cowboys-Patriots game
Just four weeks into the 2023 season, Ezekiel Elliott will square off against his old team. Sunday, the Patriots and Cowboys will go head-to-head at AT&T Stadium. Dak Prescott didn’t want to wait until the end of the game to have a conversation with his former teammate.
Meeting with reporters Thursday, Prescott revealed that he spoke with Elliott on Wednesday. The two were teammates in Dallas for seven years, both getting drafted by the Cowboys in 2016.
“Probably the first time we’ve talked on the phone for that long in a while. His spirits are great,” Prescott said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He’s excited. It’ll be good to see him. … I’m happy for him. Always pulling for him. He’s doing well. I’m excited for him.”
Through three games, Elliott has carried the ball 28 times for 122 yards for New England. During the offseason, the Cowboys released the running back.
Reporters then asked Prescott to relive some of his favorite memories of Elliott in a Cowboys uniform. The quarterback had one specific moment in mind.
“Probably him jumping over guys. Just clearing them and not changing his stride. One of the greatest plays that’s never gonna be shown fully is him jumping over the guy in Philly and then tripping over his own feet,” Prescott said. “I’ll never forget it. If he would’ve scored, it would live forever. But because he didn’t score it’s just something we can laugh and talk about it.”
Kickoff between Dallas and New England is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
Zeke returns to Dallas to face Cowboys
Elliott enjoyed some great memories while in Dallas. He proved to be one of the NFL’s most dominant running backs while with the Cowboys, so there’s plenty of good memories inside AT&T Stadium.

He’s looking forward to returning to the place he called home for so many years.
“It’s going to be fun. I’m excited to go back to Dallas, a place where I have so much history, my home in the offseason,” Elliott said, via ESPN. “It will be cool to get back in AT&T [Stadium].”
Over the course of his seven seasons in Dallas, Elliott was twice the NFL’s rushing yards leader (2016 and 2018) and earned trips to three Pro Bowls (2016, 2018 and 2019).
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is also looking forward to seeing the running back he coached for a few seasons. He’s also happy for the opportunity given to the running back in New England.
“I’m excited for Zeke,” McCarthy said. “Great opportunity. He’s been keeping in touch with all of our guys. He’ll do great there. Play-style alone, I think he’s a really good fit for how they like to play.”
