Dak Prescott reveals what excites him about the 2022 offense

After losing in the Wild Card Round last season, pressure continues to rise within the Dallas Cowboys franchise and for quarterback Dak Prescott. They remain a perennial NFC East contender, but consistently getting into and winning in the playoffs is their next step.

Ahead of next season, Prescott will be one of the few staples returning along with Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. From there, there are a lot of fresh faces set to play in AT&T Stadium this year. While there are a lot of changes, Prescott opened minicamp stating his excitement about the influx of youth into their offense.

“Just the youth that we have and as many young guys that we have. We’re going to have to count on some of those guys. I’m excited for what they’ve done in the time that they’ve been here and I know the steps they’re going to take once we get into training camp,” said Prescott. “I’m excited for those guys to make their names known. There’s a lot (of them) that can make plays and that are going to be huge in this offense.”

Of the new names in Dallas, Prescott mentioned Jalen Tolbert as one to watch for next season. The Cowboys selected the receiver in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of South Alabama. During his final season, he totaled 1,474 reception yards and eight touchdowns. In order to help replace the production of Amari Cooper, Prescott says Tolbert can help fill the gap.

“Obviously when you draft a guy in the third round, you expect him to come in and make a difference. Losing the weapons we did out wide, we’re going to count on him and he knows that. He is a guy that has come in having the right approach, learned the playbook, asking more and more of what he can learn, and he’ll continue to get better,” said Prescott. “I’m sure he’s going to take huge strides just in this month we’re off. All I’m comparing (him) to is the last time we were ot there at practive and he’s making strides. As long as he continues to do that, he’s put himself in a good position.”

Today is the final day of the Cowboy’s mandatory minicamp. They won’t come together again until they return for training camp ahead of next season. From there they’ll continue to build their continuity ahead of Week 1 against Tampa Bay.
