Dak Prescott shares hardest part of missing games
Dak Prescott has still not returned from the fractured thumb he suffered during Dallas’ opener. However, the Cowboys have gotten on a roll without him with a 4-0 record since. While still on the sidelines, Prescott says missing this much time has taken a toll on him. That’s because of the person he is and the way he wants to support his teammates.
Prescott spoke after the game about what has made this missed time so difficult on him. Per Jon Machota of The Athletic, Prescott said the games are easier on him because of how he gets to interact with his team rather than knowing there’s not much he can do during the week.

“The games are sometimes the easiest part, to be honest with you. Being able to see my brothers go out there and do what they love. I’m a selfless guy. At that point, it’s exciting. And I know that I can help them, whether it’s telling them something in their ear or just getting the energy gong, I feel like I have a part,” said Prescott. “The week may be a little bit tougher, knowing that you want to be in there game-planning, practicing and all that. But when you come out here and it’s game day, I know I’ve got a job and that’s (to) support the 48. And that’s the best thing that I can do. It’s exciting to see what these guys can do.”
Prescott has been supportive of his backup Cooper Rush, who has come in and more than kept Dallas afloat. The offense hasn’t been electric, but it’s been more than enough when paired with the Cowboy’s Top-3 defense.

In the end, missing this much time has helped Prescott teach him lessons about himself and his team. He thinks it will benefit everyone in the long run and help them build off the already impressive 4-1 start.
“I’ve definitely learned a lot about myself, about this team in this situation,” Prescott said. “It’s going to help me, it’s going to help this team, and it’s going to help us all moving forward. I just want to keep this thing rolling when I get back, and take off.”
Prescott still has no return date in mind yet, especially with how well Rush has played. The win streak in Dallas has given the team enough room to breathe where they don’t feel the need to rush the franchise QB back. Until he does, Prescott still sounds more than happy to play the supportive role on the sidelines. After that, he’ll be back healthy and ready to help the team keep up their hot start to the 2022 season.
