Dak Prescott shares moment with young fans ahead of Cowboys preseason opener

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gave a few young fans a moment they’ll never forget ahead of Saturday’s preseason opener against Jacksonville. Standing on the sidelines with a little more than an hour before kickoff, Prescott greeted a family with three kids all wearing his jersey.

The Cowboys QB offered them fist bumps before posing for a picture with them all as they wore big smiles on their faces. You can view the heartwarming moment below.

Prescott has not played in a preseason game since the 2019 season. It appears he won’t break that streak this year either as coach Mike McCarthy previously said he was leaning toward not playing the QB. The Cowboys announced before kickoff that they plan to rest 25 veterans, though they did not indicate specifically which players will sit out.

The past two preseasons that Prescott missed were due to him recovering from injuries. He enters this year healthy, but Dallas may want to exercise caution with its gunslinger as he enters his eighth NFL season.

Prescott suffered a thumb injury in Week 1 of the 2022 season that caused him to miss the next five weeks of action before returning in Week 7. He finished the year with 2,860 yards passing, 23 touchdowns and a league-high 15 interceptions in 12 games.

As Prescott hopes to bounce back in 2023, he has the support of Cowboys fans such as these young kids. The Cowboys and Jaguars just got underway at AT&T Stadium, and Cooper Rush got the start at QB.

Prescott makes bold prediction on interception numbers in 2023

After an offseason of work, Prescott is feeling good about the ways in which he cleaned up his game since last season. At a youth football camp earlier this month, the veteran insisted that his 15 regular-season interceptions were blown out of proportion.

Prescott also assured that he won’t surpass even 10 interceptions in 2023.

“I know who I am, and you can go back and take away half of those off drops,” Prescott said, via Gabriel Trevino of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m not saying it’s on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those, nobody is talking about it. . . . Some of it is the offense and them understanding exactly where we are.

“Mike (McCarthy) does an amazing job with those guys. They know where to be, why to be, when they’re getting looked at. That’s going to be a big jump. I won’t have 10 interceptions this year.”
