Dak Prescott shares what James Washington brings to Dallas Cowboys
Amari Cooper’s trade to the Cleveland Browns left a gap to be filled in the Dallas Cowboys receiving core. Even with CeeDee Lamb set to ascend to the No. 1 receiver spot, there were still plenty of catches to go around in Dallas. To finish bridging that gap, the Cowboys went out and signed former Steelers wide receiver James Washington in free agency. From his early impressions, quarterback Dak Prescott is loving his newest weapon.
When speaking with the media at the Dallas’ mandatory minicamp, Prescott says Washington has brought a veteran, explosive presence to the field.
“Obviously just a veteran. You turn on the film and see a contested catch guy,” said Prescott. “He’s got some juice. He can take the top off.”
Washington is headed into his fifth NFL season with this being his first away from Pittsburgh. The former Oklahoma State receiver totaled 1,629 reception yards and 11 touchdowns with the Black & Gold. With that said, he’s coming off his worst season as a pro since his rookie year with just 285 yards and two touchdowns in 2021.

Still, Washington is a welcome addition to a Cowboys team that needed another presence on the outside. With no Cooper, it’ll be up to him, Lamb, Michael Gallup, and rookie Jalen Tolbert to produce at wideout. Of that group, Washington’s experience alone has made him easy for Prescott to love early on.
“Just in the time we’ve had, he’s been very friendly. Very quarterback friendly,” said Prescott. “He’s running good routes. I’m excited to see him with defenders now.”
With Dallas’ minicamp ending this week, the team will dispand before training camp starts back next month. If Prescott’s evaluation is as solid as it appears, then he and Washington’s connection will only get better once they return to the field.
