Dale Earnhardt Jr. disagrees with opinion Homestead playoff race was '10 out of 10'
During his life and long career in NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has seen a lot of great races. So, how does he rank last Sunday at Homestead? Well, he isn’t so sure about all of the hype around the race as a whole.
Now, I’m not going to say Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn’t like the race. That isn’t true. But while many online had huge reactions to it, myself included, Earnhardt didn’t see anything besides the last lap pass that made this truly special.
Granted, Dale Jr. watched a replay of the race. He spent his afternoon watching the Washington Commanders win via Hail Mary on the last play.
“Hey, I was doing a lot of s**t this week but I was trying to pay attention to what was going on,” Earnhardt said on the Dale Jr. Download. “And I did rewatch the race yesterday, thrilling finish with Tyler Reddick going around the top to beat Blaney. There is a lot of great feedback about this race. … After the race was over with, social media was flush with ‘That’s good as it gets. That’s the Next Gen car at its best. This is exactly what I want when I turn on a NASCAR race.’ … I’m assuming that everybody in the room felt exactly the same way, right?”

For Dale Earnhardt Jr. this race was good – not great. It surely wasn’t a perfect race, either.
“I rewatched the race it was good. You know, I don’t know if I’m seeing the 10 out of 10, it was good. It had all the things that I would have expected. It was the race I would have expected to happen at Homestead,” Earnhardt explained. “Did y’all see something in this race at Homestead that you don’t see at Homestead or hadn’t seen at Homestead before? Aside from the pass in Turn 3 and 4 on the very last lap?”
To each their own, but I have to disagree with Dale Jr. here. Homestead had all of the playoff drama we could have hoped for. There was three-wide racing and genuine suspense. Kyle Larson coming from the rear with a damaged car. All of the playoff drivers besides Joey Logano were on the top of their game.
Throw in that last 7 lap battle on the track between Blaney, Hamlin, and Reddick – that’s the recipe for an unforgettable race.
