Dale Earnhardt Jr. believes Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has one major hurdle that is preventing the team from having success. On the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Earnhardt said the RCR location has hampered the team.

“They are in Welcome, North Carolina. It’s literally just another hour up the road (from Charlotte). It’s not that far, but it might as well be on Mars,” Earnhardt said. “When you get an opportunity to hire somebody that has a lot of talent, one of the tougher selling points is that travel every day up the road. If you got people that live in Mooresville, live on the lake, live in Cornelius, live in Davidson; they’re established, they’ve got kids going to school here, their wives love the area, they’ve got friends in the neighborhood. And then you’re going to ask them to try to drive Welcome every day of the week and the traveling on the race weekends?

“It’s going to be hard. Furniture Row did it, but they were in Denver. …That’s always been the challenge in my eyes for RCR. I think the challenge for RCR really is about getting people to come and make that commitment to drive that drive or physically move there. Some do. They got great employees. If you’re missing a couple key cogs in the wheel you’re just always going to be just that little bit off, and that’s where they are.”

Earnhardt continued: “They’re not crap. They’re just missing that extra little bit that they need. I don’t know if they can find it in the bucket they have. They have to get some more people in this bucket and get them up there.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shares more on RCR

Earnhardt did say that his thoughts on RCR are his opinion and has not talked to anyone from the team. RCR is led by Kyle Busch who is having a 2024 season he would like to forget. Earnhardt also shared his thoughts on Busch with RCR.

“Can Kyle keep his composure, keep his patience, weather the storm?” Earnhardt said. He’s got a lot of season left, he’s frustrated. So far, he’s been able to keep it composed during these post-race interviews and some of the tougher challenging moments are those post-race interviews because you want to fire off.”

RCR is owned and operated by Richard Childress. In its history, RCR has won six NASCAR Cup Series Championships, all with the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.
