Justin Allgaier defeated Kyle Larson to win his second consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series race this past weekend, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has some thoughts about it. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt broke down how Allgaier won the Homestead.

“What I’ve seen from Justin and what I know as a driver and what I’ve watched in the last 40 years, Just has something a little bit extra in those moments,” Earnhardt said. “If you go back and watch this race, I’m talking about from Chicago, the way he knifed through there and just kind of took it away. Now this certain instant, he didn’t do that at Homestead. Larson got screwed over. If that doesn’t happen, who knows? Larson goes on and wins the race.”

Earnhardt went on to say that Allgaier “goes down in the corner, gets down in there and has to kind of make a decision to cross the 21(Austin Hill) over, and it was great. He’s racing to win. Most people in that situation are racing to maintain or survive. He flipped it right in the middle of that corner to racing to win. I think that’s what it fun about being his car owner. I know when we get that late restart and he’s in the top four, he’s gonna race to win as opposed to racing to survive, and that’s fun.”

Justin Allgaier and Kyle Larson share thoughts on the Homestead race

Justin Allgaier won the Homestead race after taking the lead over Sam Mayer during the final lap in overtime. Kyle Larson led 132 of the 201 laps, but Mayer hit him with two laps remaining and knocked him out of the lead.

“I was actually bummed to see the caution flag come out but it worked out in my favor,” Allgaier said after the race, per NASCAR.com. “I’m bummed I maybe got the [weekend] triple from Kyle [Larson] because I think he’s going to have a great shot at [winning] it tomorrow. But we were at the right place at the right time and I’m really proud of this race team.”

“Loved to have gotten a win for everybody at the 17 car,” Larson said. “They don’t get to race all the time, so it’s good we can run up front. Got one more opportunity at this [in the 17 car] in a few weeks and see if we can get it done then.”
