Dale Earnhardt Jr. reacts to Ryan Truex’s Wawa 250 win at Daytona
Among the many NASCAR fans watching Ryan Truex win at Daytona was none other than Dale Earnhardt Jr. While his JR Motorsports drivers weren’t able to come away with the win, it appears Dale Jr. is happy with the result tonight.
For the second time in only eight starts this season, Ryan Truex is a winner in the Xfinity Series. Despite his brother being so successful in NASCAR, Ryan has forged his own path in the sport.
Over the years he has driven many different cars. In celebration of this win, Dale Earnhardt Jr. pulled out an old koozie. I bet he’s going to have an ice-cold Budweiser Select 55 in that koozie to celebrate.
Of course, Dale Jr. would have liked to have seen one of his drivers win this race. But it didn’t happen. There will be other opportunities. Besides, Justin Allgaier scored a ton of points and swept the stages tonight. That is a good consolation for Earnhardt and his organization.
Ryan Truex has proven that he is a competent driver in the Xfinity Series. I understand that funding is a major hurdle to overcome. But at some point, it has to be on teams to get sponsorship for their talent. When a driver wins 25% of his starts in a season, maybe give him more starts.
That aside, this was a great race from Truex. He kept his car straight, and didn’t get in over his head. Other drivers were too aggressive too early and it cost them… and those around them.
There were a few big wrecks in this race, but none that really affected the front of the field much. Austin Hill got caught up in a mess on Lap 1 after being moved to the rear of the field for an unapproved adjustment in prerace.
Then we saw incidents from Jeb Burton and Jeffrey Earnhardt that created big wrecks with multiple cars involved. Two wrecks inside the final 25 laps set the race up for overtime.
