Dale Earnhardt Jr. reacts to wild Corey LaJoie flip, wreck at Michigan
During the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Core LaJoie flipped and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has thoughts about it. NASCAR has had a lot of flips in the past, but reducing them is a big safety concern.
No one wants to see a car get into the air and flip over. Thankfully, Corey LaJoie went for a wild ride and was able to come out of the other side relatively unscathed. I’m sure he’ll be sore, but he left the care center without any issues.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. heard a lot of talk about flips and how the car is built, and all of the negative comments after the flip. So, he set the record straight.
Agreeing with Kenny Wallace that the flat undercarriage of the cars creates a surface for air to push the car up and over, Earnhardt added his own commentary as well.
“For sure,” Earnhardt agreed with Wallace. “And cars have been flipping in NASCAR since the beginning. It’s an unpleasant consequence of going fast. And we should always go fast.”
So, where is the line? NASCAR is not going to get rid of flips completely. They just won’t. However, this is the second time that LaJoie has flipped this season. There was a flip in the Xfinity Series race as well this weekend.
Ultimately, I think I agree with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Flips are part of the sport. We should be talking about how well the roof held up and the fact that LaJoie thanked NASCAR for having a safe car.
If you can’t get rid of flips, reducing the damage to drivers when it does happen is the next best thing. These are scary wrecks to watch, but it’s great that LaJoie was able to mostly joke about it.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR fans watch Corey LaJoie flip
While racing Noah Gragson for position in the top 20, Corey LaJoie made contact, went sideways, and flipped. This is the second flip of the race weekend. Kyle Sieg went over in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday.
We had just had a huge wreck with multiple cars involved. Now we have a single car incident with Corey LaJoie flipping over. Even with his roof and hood flaps popping up as they should, the speed was too much. The No. 7 car flipped, concerning the NBC booth.
NASCAR is going to want to look at this wreck again. LaJoie should not have flipped from this incident, but he did. The driver was able to drop his window net soon after coming to a stop.
Noah Gragson and Corey LaJoie had raced each other hard. LaJoie was trying to make a move and it didn’t work. Between the delicate aero at this track and the slight contact, it was not a situation where LaJoie was going to make it out without spinning.
However, no one expected that car to flip. Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte were beside themselves. They said that it was unacceptable for that wreck to happen that way. They have a point, too.
