Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared some information about the upcoming NASCAR video game and the soundtrack. On Dale Jr. Download, the NASCAR Hall of Famer revealed the latest on getting music added to the game that’s being developed by iRacing.

“One of the things that’s really important I think is trying to create a soundtrack,” Earnhardt said. “Steve Meyers that works at iRacing, great friend of mine, known him forever it seems, he asked me to see if I could kind of help out a little bit, spurn some ideas. I reached out to a couple of drivers, won’t name who just yet. We got some ideas on some songs for some drivers.

“We also pitched it out to folks last night on social media. I tweeted about it. I said, ‘Hey what songs are a must?’ I saw the NASCAR Reddit take that tweet over to Reddit. Man, if you read the thread, Molly Hatchet, Molly Hatchet, Molly Hatchet, ‘Flirting with Disaster.'”

Earnhardt later added, “The great thing about being asked to be involved in this is I get to kind of go on this ride to learn about how you get the rights to these songs, what does that cost? How expensive is it? …It’ll be fun to see what kind of budget we have, what kind of expense this will cost, I’m going to learn so much through this process. You have to have somebody go out and reach out to each individual person that owns the license, and it might be multiple people that own the license to one song, and you have to pay each one of those individuals. It’s not a simple situation.”

NASCAR announced last year that iRacing acquired NASCAR Team Properties’ exclusive simulation-style console racing games license from Motorsport Games. The console game is expected to be released in the fall of 2025.

“When we were approached with the option to acquire the license for the simulation-style NASCAR console game, which was the console game and franchise that we were dreaming about doing, it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” iRacing President Tony Gardner said in a press release last year. “Having the ability to build a NASCAR console game is a privilege we promise to execute with the utmost care. We look forward to working diligently with NASCAR industry stakeholders to deliver a product that provides an amazing experience for the gaming community and NASCAR fans worldwide.”
