NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. broke down the broadcast issues that occurred with FloSports airing the South Carolina 400. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt explained why the event at Florence Motor Speedway was challenging to watch.

“Flo had a lot of issues with the broadcast. There’s a lot of reasons why that was probably the way it was,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “This is a facility that manages probably anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 on a great night. They have what they need in terms of internet and all of those things. Steve [Zacharias] and his team have everything they need to function week in and week out. I don’t think they could have prepared for what they were going to have in terms of how much the system would be loaded by not only the fans that were there if anybody was using the wifi.

“…Flo is the streaming partner (of NASCAR). They’re the front end of the broadcast that you are going to connect to. But the production, the editing and the directing is all NASCAR productions. In some scenarios like this one, Flo and NASCAR productions work together to bring this broadcast to you. I just don’t think they really anticipated how stressed and overstressed that system would be.”

FloSports and NASCAR extend media partnership

The FlorSports issues at the South Carolina 400 came after NASCAR and FlorSports announced a multi-year extension of its media partnership. FloRacing covers and distributes more than 1,000 race events annually.
