Dallas Cowboys announce multiple roster moves Tuesday to get under roster limit
The Dallas Cowboys needed to shed five players by 3 p.m. on Tuesday to get down to the NFL’s roster limit and they did so with several cuts and an IR move.
The Cowboys roster is now at 81 players heading towards the final preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night. Although the NFL limit is 80 players, offensive tackle Isaac Alarcon has a roster exemption.
They waived kicker Lirim Hajrullahu, cornerback Quandre Mosely (Kentucky), wide receiver Jaquarii Roberson (Wake Forest) and linebacker Christian Sam (ASU).

Moving to the injured reserve list is former Arkansas tight end Jeremy Sprinkle. Sprinkle suffered an Achilles injury and had to use a walking boot during training camp in Oxnard. This past season was his first with the Cowboys. He appeared in all 17 games with four starts, catching all three of his targets for 31 yards.
Roberson and Mosely are undrafted rookie free agents and didn’t play much during the Cowboys’ first two preseason games.
By next Tuesday, the Cowboys will whittle down the roster further to just 53 players by 3 p.m.
Cowboys make key decision in kicker competition
The Dallas Cowboys waiving Lirim Hajrullahu means that Brett Maher is now the only kicker on the team.
Hajrullahu signed with the Cowboys at the beginning of July, when he was brought in to compete with undrafted rookie Jonathan Garibay for the starting job. He also played for Dallas briefly last season, replacing Greg Zurlein as the starter in Week 10 to go 5-for-5 on his extra point attempts.

Garibay was later waived on Aug. 9, the same day that the team signed Maher. With Hajrullahu now following, it appears the Cowboys may have settled on Maher to begin the year.
Maher is a proven kicker who played his college football for Nebraska. He has played for eight different NFL teams so far as a practice squad or offseason kicker.
He previously kicked for the Cowboys in 2018 and 2019 after the Dan Bailey era. Maher even made the four longest field goals in franchise history. However, during his tenure in Dallas, he missed eight field goals between 40-49 yards.
In 2021, Maher kicked for the New Orleans Saints with the best percentage of his career. He made 16 of 18 field goals, including 4-4 between 40-49 yards. So far this preseason, Maher has appeared in two games to go 3-for-3 on extra points while also missing his only field goal attempt.
