Dallas Cowboys coaching search: Adam Schefter shares update on Brian Schottenheimer after multiple interviews
The Dallas Cowboys coaching search has continued into Friday afternoon, despite there being a lot of buzz about Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer being in a strong position to land the job.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show Friday afternoon and explained where things stand with the Dallas Cowboys coaching search. According to Schefter, it’s hard to label a deal as close to being done at this point because everything is up to Jerry Jones.
“You know, it’s hard to tell, because I think one guy determines that, and one guy can change his mind at any moment,” Schefter said. “And one guy can wake up today and say, ‘You know what? I know we’ve done a lot of work into Brian Schottenheimer, but I feel like Deion Sanders or Jason Witten would be the best for this organization.’ Again, I don’t know what Jerry Jones is going to be feeling today.”
Schefter reported earlier this week that Brian Schottenheimer met with Dallas Cowboys officials for two days to discuss the head coaching job, but there is still no deal in place at the moment, and Jerry Jones has reportedly spoken to other candidates, as well.
“I think they spent a lot of time on Brian Schottenheimer. I think that makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels,” Schefter said. “But ultimately one guy’s going to make the decision, and until he makes the decision, we don’t know exactly what direction this is going to go.
“So it’s hard to pin it on somebody until they’re moving forward with that decision. And as of last night, they hadn’t moved forward on any decision, to my knowledge.”

Schefter added that it’s also hard to pinpoint a timeline as far as when the Dallas Cowboys coaching search will come to an end.
“The Cowboys could end today, it could end next week,” he said. “We don’t know when Jerry’s going to decide to make a decision. That could be any time.”
Nick Harris of the Fort Worth-Star Telegram reported earlier this week that there was some mutual interest between the Dallas Cowboys and Pete Carroll over the open head coaching spot. However, Carroll was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday.
Carroll, who won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, is replacing Antonio Pierce, who was fired after going 4-13 in his first and only season at the helm.
