Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd doesn’t believe it is a coincidence that news broke Monday evening that there is mutual interest between the Dallas Cowboys and Deion Sanders. Cowherd feels that Jerry Jones leaked the news ahead of the Monday NFL playoff game in order to have everyone talking about the Cowboys.

If Jerry Jones did indeed leak the news on purpose, it appears to be working as Sanders potentially taking over as the coach of the Cowboys is currently one of the biggest stories in sports.

“Last night, big playoff game, Jerry Jones, the attention seeker, once again makes sure this leaks, Deion Sanders and the Cowboys are interested,” Colin Cowherd said Tuesday on his show. “Jerry Jones loves attention. … when he can’t win on the field, let’s be relevant off it.

“He drops that story last night to get the attention. He wants it and he’ll steal it. He wants to be relevant. This is who he is. So if you can’t win big on the field, stay relevant off the field.”

Cowherd added that he feels like there is a real shot that Deion Sanders is coaching the Dallas Cowboys in 2025. Training camp attendance was down in Dallas ahead of the 2024 season, and opposing fans got their hands on way too many tickets to home Cowboys games this year, according to Cowherd.

“Here’s the issue, and this is why you’ve gotta take the Deion Sanders thing seriously, the Cowboys training camp – lowest attendance ever. When they played the Packers and the Niners, a third of the stadium in Dallas is filled with Packers and Niners fans,” Cowherd said. “Deion gets attention. He’ll make them fascinating.”

Cowherd is unsure what kind of fit Deion Sanders would be with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, stating that there’s a chance he could win big, but there’s also a chance the move could blow up.

However, there’s no doubt that people will tune in to see how it goes and Cowboys fans will show up to support one of the best players in franchise history.

“Deion makes them interesting. … At one point young Jerry was a maverick and a risk taker and let Jimmy Johnson do the football. Then after about four years, Jerry didn’t like Jimmy getting all the attention, and now it’s really about attention,” Cowherd said. “They’re not relevant on the field… so let’s stay relevant off the field.

“Now Deion, I don’t know how it’ll go. I don’t have a crystal ball. It could be a disaster, it could be great. But relevant? Interesting? Absolutely.”
