Dallas Cowboys coaching search: New details emerge on frontrunner after Pete Carroll talks
Information regarding the Dallas Cowboys head coaching search appears to be all over the place. The latest piece of news says Jerry Jones and Pete Carroll have spoken, with there being some interest. Nick Harris of the Fort Worth-Star Telegram was on the report.
Not too long after, Jane Slater of the NFL Network hit a reset button on the whole situation. She says Brian Schottenheimer currently has “the most steam” of anyone out there. Three other names are provided by Slater but none of them have been formally interviewed to this point.
“Here’s the deal,” Slater began via X. “No unanimous decision yet in Dallas. There have been informal talks and ‘picking of brains’ from the likes of Pete Carroll, Deion Sanders and there was even a chat with Rich Bissacia. Brian Schottenheimer seems to have the most steam but things remain fluid.
“There are reasons the above aren’t legitimate contenders but Jerry Jones is certainly talking to a lot more people than he did the last search. Talks internally continue today as we wait based on multiple phone calls with several parties involved.”
Dallas did not take too long in their previous coaching search, hiring Mike McCarthy. But nearly two weeks after letting go of McCarthy, the timeline of finding his replacement continues to prolong. No decision appears to be imminent either.

“Fluid” might be the keyword from Slater as the Dallas front office is still searching for answers themselves. Eventually, Jones will settle on somebody to lead the Cowboys into the 2025 season.
Pete Carroll, Dallas Cowboys have mutual interest
According to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth-Star Telegram, there is some interest between the Dallas Cowboys and Pete Carroll over the open head coaching role. Harris says Carroll has spoken directly with Jerry Jones and a decision is now in the hands of the Cowboys owner/general manager.
“While the Cowboys mull over Brian Schottenheimer’s two days of interviews with the team, @startelegram has learned that there has been interest in former Seahawks HC Pete Carroll and that he has spoken with Jerry Jones,” Harris said via X. “Decision is in the hands of Jerry.”
Two things appear to be key for the Cowboys throughout this search — somebody who has familiarity with the organization or previous head coaching experience. Carroll would certainly check the latter box.
