Dallas Cowboys coaching search: New development emerges in interview process
The Dallas Cowboys are making a big move while searching for a new head coach. NFL insider Josinia Anderson revealed that some head coach prospects the Cowboys have interviewed won’t likely be interviewed for a second time.
“I’m told some of the head coach prospects the Dallas Cowboys interviewed have been told and/ or are not expecting second interviews, per league source,” Anderson wrote on X.
A reason for this could be the Cowboys are reportedly showing a lot of interest in hiring offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach. Jane Slater of the NFL Network revealed on Thursday that Schottenheimer interviewed with Dallas on Wednesday.
“The Cowboys met with OC Brian Schottenheimer for more than 5 hours yesterday in what was their 2nd interview this week with him,” Slater wrote on X. “When asked if this was imminent or whether news expected today, I was told ‘nothing as of yet’ per a source informed. The wait continues.”
Along with Schottenheimer, the Cowboys have interviewed Leslie Frazier, Robert Saleh and Kellen Moore. Dallas has also been linked to former Cowboys players Deion Sanders and Jason Witten. The Cowboys are looking to replace Mike McCarthy, head coach of the Cowboys from 2020 to 2024.

More on the Dallas Cowboys’ coaching search
“Throughout Mike McCarthy’s tenure here, including the last several weeks, I have been very complimentary of the job he has done,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “That has applied to our record over that time period, our team unity and culture, Mike’s qualifications and track record of success, and on a personal level as a tremendous human being. I have great respect for Mike, and he has led the team through some very unique and challenging times during his tenure.”
The new Cowboys’ head coach will have a lot of pressure to face. The last time Dallas has played in a Super Bowl was during the 1995 season. After the Super Bowl appearance, the Cowboys have reached the playoffs 13 times and have lost in the Wild Card or Divisional round game each time.
This year, the Cowboys missed the playoffs after going 7-10. They now have to watch their two NFC East rivals — the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles — play against each other in the NFC Championship game. The Commanders are looking to play in their first Super Bowl since the 1991 season, and the Eagles are looking to win their first Super Bowl since 2018 (2017 season).
