Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph cleared by police for shooting involvement
The Dallas Cowboys received good news on the availability of Kelvin Joseph after he was cleared of involvement in a March shooting. The Cowboys learned that Dallas County officials had cleared Joseph of any involvement in a fatal drive-by shooting that he was a passenger during, according to a report from DallasCowboys.com’s Mickey Spagnola.
Kelvin Joseph cleared in shooting investigation
Joseph being cleared by the police for the fatal shooting in March is great news for the Dallas cornerback as he prepares for his second NFL season. While he has been cleared by the police, the NFL still has the authority to hand down a disciplinary decision of their own if they see fit. In the meantime, Dallas will continue their training camp preparations with the expectation that Joseph is fully available.
Joseph was under investigation by authorities for his possible connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in March that he was present for. The incident occurred at a club, and led to the death of 20-year old Cameron Ray. Joseph maintained from the night of the incident that he was not involved in the shooting — and that he was unarmed that night and was not looking for any violent encounters. Joseph and his lawyer stated that the incident escalated without his involvement or consent.

“There has been a lot of speculation over his availability after being a passenger in a car from where a fatal drive-by shooting took place late March in Dallas,” explained Spagnola. “But I’ve learned, Joseph, who was not involved in the shooting, has been cleared by Dallas County officials, being truthful and forthcoming during the investigation, and remember he never was arrested or charged with anything. Now as for the NFL, that is a different matter, and its movement is at glacier speeds when coming to incidents such as this. The Cowboys have stood firm on the issue that the 22-year-old is good to go from a legal standpoint.”
Dallas selected Joseph with the 44th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Kentucky, and he appeared in ten games for the Cowboys and started in two of them. He finished his rookie season with 16 tackles, two passes defended and a fumble recovery.
