Mike McCarthy provides update on Dak Prescott injury timeline
The big question in Big D surrounds quarterback Dak Prescott. Everyone in the organization has teased his return to the field after suffering an injury in the season opener. Prescott himself has mentioned this week against Washington before later saying Week 5 against Los Angeles.
A lot is up in the air at the moment.
Head coach Mike McCarthy gave the latest on his end, saying he does not have a timeline for when Prescott will return. In fact, he doesn’t even know when the quarterback will be back in practice throwing the ball. Getting a stitch out of his thumb was a sign of progress but McCarthy says there are still questions.

“(Prescott) still has some swelling he has to deal with,” McCarthy said during his Tuesday presser.
Before Dallas kicked off against New York on Monday night, ESPN’s Lisa Salters gave a report herself, saying the swelling was present in the thumb. There was scheduled to be a meeting with a team doctor after the game to see when Prescott could begin gripping and throwing a football.
“He got the one long stitch removed from his surgically repaired right thumb,” Salters said. “That stitch was taken out this afternoon, here at the stadium. There’s still some swelling in his thumb but he said it feels great. He was going to talk to the doctor right after and hopefully, start gripping and throwing the football again.”

When speaking with the USA TODAY after the game, Prescott said he’s ‘looking’ to return on Oct. 9 when Dallas travels to Los Angeles to face off against the Rams. That would only mean he missing three games. After the Week 1 diagnosis from within the Cowboys organization, you could chalk that up as a win.
Dallas Cowboys finding success without Dak Prescott
Prescott has been sidelined with an injury but Dallas has been able to find success over the past two weeks. Cooper Rush has been leading the offense, being a crucial part in Monday night’s win over the New York Giants. He also started in Week 2 when the Cowboys got a shock win over Cincinnati.
However, it’s been Dan Quinn’s defense really impressing three weeks into the season. They have been the reason Dallas is winning football games, even if the franchise quarterback is unhealthy. Once Prescott is back on the field, the hope is the Cowboys can continue their winning ways.
