Heading into the second half of their season, the Dallas Cowboys will continue to be without their star defensive end, DeMarcus Lawrence. He has only appeared in one game this season, the opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lawerence broke the fifth-metatarsal in his foot during practice leading into Week 2, requiring surgery. The Cowboys placed him on injured reserve and he has yet to practice since.

Mike McCarthy said Lawrence is not going to begin his 21-day practice window this week. As a result, he will miss the Cowboys’ game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The last update we got on Lawrence was a week ago from the head coach. He said the defensive end was “getting close” but “another week or two away” from returning to practice. Lawrence was spotted testing out his foot with an athletic trainer and resistant bands last Wednesday.

Missing from the Cowboys front has been Lawrence’s ability off the edge, especially in the run game. For the past four seasons, he has at least 10 tackles for a loss, reaching as high as 15 during the 2018 season.

Stepping up in the presence of the pass rusher has been Randy Gregory. He has five sacks on the season to go along with two forced fumbles. In the tackle for a loss department, he only has three total on the season.

Lawrence not the only Cowboys with an update

On the more positive side of injury news for the Dallas Cowboys, it seems as if wide receiver Michael Gallup is going to return this week. With CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper already cooking in the offense, Kellen Moore now has another capable star receiver at his disposal.

McCarthy said Gallup will be a full participant in practice on Wednesday, with the expectation being he plays against Atlanta on Sunday. He played in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before exiting in the second half. Dallas placed him on injured reserve with a calf strain. Now, he’s set to rejoin the squad.

On the season, Gallup has four receptions for 36 yards. He was a key part of the Cowboys’ offense throughout his previous three seasons, having 2,493 career receiving yards. 2019 was his best season, going for over 1,100 yards and having six touchdowns.
