DeMarcus Lawrence says he would prefer being in Super Bowl over Pro Bowl

As the Dallas Cowboys received their Pro Bowl nominations for this year’s big event, there was one very notable omission. Former second-rounder DeMarcus Lawrence was not among the seven names listed on the initial NFC Pro Bowl roster. In spite of the snub, the three-time Pro Bowler has his eyes on much bigger prize this season anyway – a spot in Super Bowl LVIII.

“I’ve had the opportunity to experience the Pro Bowl over my years playing,” Lawrence said on Thursday, via Jon Machota. “It really doesn’t matter to me. I look at it like this, it’s either I’m gonna be in the Super Bowl or I’m gonna be in the Pro Bowl. It’s either (Nick) Bosa is gonna be in the Super Bowl or he’s gonna be in the Pro Bowl, so it really doesn’t matter.

“My goals are set on the Super Bowl.”

Lawrence was 10th on the Cowboys defense this season with 47 tackles through the first 16 games. He had four sacks, along with 11 tackles for loss, which is second on the team. Last season, Lawrence received a Pro Bowl selection after a year with 65 tackles, six sacks and 11 tackles for loss. He added another sack and a tackle for loss and a half in the postseason against the 49ers.

The Cowboys’ seven Pro Bowl selections are linebacker Micah Parsons, punter Bryan Anger, kicker Brandon Aubrey, cornerback Daron Bland, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, right guard Zack Martin and quarterback Dak Prescott.

Parsons going for sack No. 14 on Sunday

Edge rusher Micah Parsons is one sack away from setting a new career high and he has just one game left to do it. The 24-year-old hit 13.5 sacks last season and recorded 13 as a rookie but he’s eager to finally break the 13-sack threshold.

During his press conference leading up to the game against the Washington Commanders, Parsons threatened to jump offsides twice on Sunday. Last week against the Detroit Lions, the star drew an offsides call – it was his fifth of the season. Luckily for Dallas, it didn’t cost them the victory.

“I know, I know,” Parsons told reporters on Wednesday. “I literally just had this conversation with the guys today. At this point, it’s any means necessary. I might jump offsides twice this week. Something has to change. Something. It’s coming. It’s coming for sure.”

Parsons was one of seven Cowboys players to earn a Pro Bowl bid this week. It’s his third straight Pro Bowl selection and no surprise for one of Dallas’s best young talents.

On top of his 13 sacks this season, Parsons has totaled 59 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 11 tackles for loss. He’s just one tackles for loss shy of his rookie total of 12, which is his career-high.
