Dallas Cowboys, DL Osa Odighizuwa agree to massive contract extension

The Dallas Cowboys and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa have agreed to a new contract. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Odighizuwa has agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal that includes $58 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus.
The Cowboys selected Osa Odighizuwa in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During the 2024 season, the former UCLA star recorded 47 tackles, five tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one pass defended and one forced fumble.
Last month, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters the team wants Odighizuwa back for the 2025 season and beyond. “I think there’s a lot of ongoing conversations,” Schottenheimer told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, per Cowboys.com. “Obviously Osa has done a terrific job for us. He’s a terrific young player. He does everything right and as the communications keep going. It’s never done until it’s done, but he’d be a guy we’d love to have back.”

Bringing back Odighizuwa is a big boost for the Cowboys’ defense, but they know they have to add more pieces to be a contender next season. Schottenheimer told reporters that when it comes to adding players in the offseason, it’s important that you start within before hitting the free agent market.

“As you look at it, you always wanna look at your own roster first. So, who can we bring back? Who are the guys that we feel like are cornerstones of what we’re trying to get done?” Schottenheimer said. ” I believe in this … I think that there’s talent acquisition, which is adding players – whether they’re internal, external, whatever that is.”
Odighizuwa has been one of the Cowboys’ most consistent defensive players in the last three years. He has recorded at least three sacks a year and has not missed a game in the regular season during that span. Ahead of the new contract, NFL.com ranked Odighizuwa the seventh-best free agent on the market. He was behind players like QB Sam Darnold, OL Ronnie Stanley and OL Trey Smith.
