Drew Pearson is a proud member of the Dallas Cowboys’ Ring of Honor following his Hall of Fame career. But he thinks some people are missing from the ring — and he called out Jerry Jones for those omissions.

Pearson, who starred for the Cowboys from 1973-83 and helped Dallas to a Super Bowl XII title, cited some big names who aren’t on the Ring of Honor, including coach Jimmy Johnson. He called on Jones to expand it so some of the biggest names in Cowboys history can be included. Right now, 22 names are part of the group.

“Time for Jerry to put Jimmy in,” Pearson said, via the Dallas Morning News’ Brad Townsend. “And [Ed] ‘Too Tall’ [Jones], Harvey Martin, Charlie Waters, John Niland. Look at their records. Come on. They’re all big contributors to Dallas Cowboys football history, as are other guys.

“The thing about it is we wish there was a Ring of Honor committee where we can offer suggestions to Jerry. You don’t have to do what we say; just listen to us, who we think were contributors to our success coming through the ‘70s and ‘80s.”

Jerry Jones projects optimism after loss of All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was on the set of First Take on Thursday morning, giving the hosts the opportunity to ask him about injured left tackle Tyron Smith. Smith suffered a serious hamstring injury that reports indicate could put him on the sidelines until at least December.

Jones shared his initial reaction to losing his All-Pro left tackle.

“We found this out in the wee hours,” Jones said. “It’s a setback. Anybody will tell you, one of the things about the game, for the best and for the opportunity of the unproven, you’ve got to take what you’re dealt and go on with it. We’ve got some good options here, we’ve got a team around him and we’ve got a defense that’s stronger than it’s been in a lot of years. So, we’ve got a lot, not to make up for not having him, but to go on without him.

“We’ll have him and we’ll have him at the right time. We’ll have him in that San Fransisco (playoff) game, or the equivalent of it, and maybe we won’t fall short.”
