The Dallas Cowboys made a series of moves Monday, most notably extending quarterback Will Grier and linebacker Darius Harris.

Dallas also signed several players to Reserve/Future contracts, per Jon Machota of The Athletic: Guard Jack Anderson, defensive back Luq Barcoo, defensive tackle Denzel Daxon, receiver Kelvin Harmon, linebacker Brock Mogensen, receiver Jalen Cropper, cornerback Troy Pride, linebacker Luiji Vilain and receiver Seth Williams.

Grier, 29, has been with the Cowboys for two stints since entering the league in 2019. He spent time in Dallas from 2021-23, often serving as the team’s third-string quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Waived after the 2023 preseason, Grier bounced around with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles over the next calendar year before signing to the Cowboys’ practice squad Nov. 12. Dallas elevated him to the active roster for Sunday’s regular season finale against the Washington Commanders. Grier has appeared in just two NFL games, both coming with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. He threw for 228 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions on 53.8% passing.

Cowboys bring back Will Grier for 2025

Grier is best known for his two seasons at West Virginia, where he threw for 71 touchdowns and 7,354 yards for the Mountaineers. During the final game of his collegiate career against Oklahoma, he threw for 539 yards and four touchdowns to cap off a memorable stretch. He led West Virginia to an 8-1 start to the season in 2018 before dropping the final two games of the season.

Both Rush and Trey Lance, who started the Week 18 game against Washington, are free agents to be in March. Depending on how the organization feels about bringing Rush and/or Lance back in 2025, Grier could have a chance to vie for the backup job behind Prescott, returning from his season-ending hamstring injury.
